Eight speakers were installed and took one site visit to find every reason why.
The parking area PA system at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque had just been installed, and none of its eight speakers were producing any sound at all. The system pulled its audio feed from the mosque's main Dante network, a sensible way to keep everything centrally managed, but by the time Techniline was called in, working alongside main contractor First Finishing Company, nobody could say with confidence where in that chain things had gone wrong. Only that a system built to carry sound was carrying nothing.
We supplied, commissioned and diagnosed the eight speaker system: Wharfedale SIGMA AX V9T column array speakers, a Wharfedale DP4035i power amplifier, and a Blustream DA11ADE Dante audio decoder to bring it onto the mosque's network. Rather than guessing at a single fix, we traced the entire signal path end to end, from the Dante input straight through to the speaker output, to find every point where something had been missed during the original install.
It turned out to be not one fault but several, stacked on top of each other. Some speakers had been terminated at 100V while others were wired at 8 ohm, so each was corrected and matched against the amplifier's selector switch settings. The amplifier's DIP switches had been left configured wrong for the application, and its gain was set to minimum, effectively muting most of the system regardless of anything else being right. Most critically, the audio channel loop from Channel 1 out to the rest of the output channels had never actually been established, meaning much of the system had no signal path to carry sound in the first place, no matter how correctly everything else was wired.
Finding all of it meant working backward through every stage of the chain: connectors, transformer taps, switch settings, gain staging, channel routing, rather than stopping at the first issue found and hoping the rest would follow. None of the faults on its own was unusual. Together, they added up to a system that looked complete on paper but had never actually worked as one.
Once every setting was corrected and Channel 1 was properly linked through to the remaining outputs, we ran a full functional test over the live Dante network to confirm the fix rather than assume it. The result: all eight speakers delivering clear, consistent audio, and the system fully operational before the team left site.
