Parts of Dubai Water Canal had gone silent. Four amplifier racks had failed, and the canal had to stay open to the public while we fixed them. Here’s how our team brought the sound back in three days.
Silence along the waterfront
The canal’s outdoor audio system runs on Dante, sending sound over the network to amplifiers placed along the water. When faulty Dante connections and failed amplifiers took out four racks, whole sections of the canal went quiet.
More than a simple swap
Replacing the racks was the easy part. Three things made this job harder:
- The network. The new equipment had to sync with the site’s existing Dante and IT configuration. This was the biggest challenge.
- The heat. The canal is fully open-air, so everything had to perform reliably in UAE temperatures.
- The public. The canal stayed open throughout, so the team worked around visitors with minimal disruption.
3 days on site. Zero delays. Sound restored.
What we did
- Found the real fault. Our engineers traced the problem through the signal chain to confirm exactly what had failed.
- Replaced the amplification. Four Lab.gruppen E 20:4 four-channel amplifiers, chosen for reliable performance outdoors.
- Reconnected the network. Four Blustream Dante decoders bring the network audio to the new amplifiers, integrated with the existing setup.
- Matched every zone. Levels were set to match the existing system, so the sound is even along the whole canal. The original zoning stayed the same.
The result
Every silent section is working again, with even sound along the whole canal. The job was completed in three days on site, with no delays, while the canal stayed open. And Arkan Security came back to Techniline because of the projects we’d already delivered together.

They found the fault in the existing system, completed the installation and set the tone to match the existing setup, so the sound level is now equal throughout the Dubai Water Canal.
