Collection: D'addario

D’Addario is a manufacturer of primarily stringed instruments since 1974. The company presently has its world headquarters in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York, and its European offices in Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, England.

The D’Addario family of string-makers started in the small Italian town of Salle; a province of Pescara. From records in history, it appears that the town’s primary occupations were farming and string-making. At the time, strings were made of sheep or hog gut, and making them was a tedious process. The guitar then had a significant rise in popularity in the early part of the 20th century, because of new popular music. Sometime in the 1930s, the family started making strings for this instrument, producing strings made-to-order for musicians or guitar manufacturers out of nylon or metal. D’Addario is currently experimenting with new materials to manufacture their instruments out of more sustainable resources to drive environmental change.
