Collection: Tannoy

Tannoy Ltd is a British loudspeaker and public-address (PA) system manufacturer. Guy Fountain started Tulsemere Manufacturing Firm in London, England, in 1926 and relocated the company to Coatbridge, Scotland, in the 1970s. Tannoy was purchased by Music Group (now Music Tribe) in 2015, along with TC Group, which had acquired Tannoy in 2002. It was then proposed that the Coatbridge facility be decommissioned and all associated operations be moved to Manchester, England.  This was eventually corrected, as it was stated in 2016 that Tannoy loudspeaker manufacture will continue in Scotland, with a fresh new facility planned.

Tannoy is a syllabic acronym of tantalum alloy, which was the material used in one of the company's electrolytic rectifiers. By 10 March 1932, the Tulsemere Manufacturing Company had been registered as Guy R. Fountain Limited, and the brand had been trademarked.

Following supplying PA systems to the military services during World War II, and then to Butlins and Pontins vacation camps after the war, it became a household brand. The brand insignia was clearly displayed on the speaker grills, allowing for easy identification.
